Our buyers sold their home. It's in contract and closes May 27.
The buyers requested we do the following repairs:
1. Install electrical disconnect to water heater
2. Install three-way switches to hall lights.
3. Install safety pan under water heater.
4. Repair exterior light near garage
5. Repair hall shower drop valve.
Not bad for a 40-year-old house! None of the water heater stuff came up in our housing inspection, so we said no to that. We've installed three-way switches in the hallway, and it didn't solve the problem - it's not a long hallway, walk to the other switch. Let's see ... the wire is cut to the exterior light in question. There is another one 15 feet away - we made do, so can you. Also a big no to the drop valve. We use a plug, it's fine.
I told our Realtor last night that we wouldn't do the repairs and we weren't giving them any money for repairs. I haven't heard back from her. Something tells me these people have already paid for a housing inspection and their option period is over tomorrow (Sunday) - I can't imagine these things are deal breakers.
The movers will be here around May 19 or 20. I am straight-up dreading the packers and am hoping we can make a trip out to the new place with a big Uhaul or two BEFORE they get here to ruin my stuff.

ReplyDeleteHere's a little tip from one government employee who has used the packers, and heard the horror stories: Empty your trash before the movers arrive. Several (more than 10) of my friends and colleagues hadn't yet gotten around to taking out the trash when their movers arrived, and the guys doing the packing packed the trash cans with the garbage still in it. Makes for a not so nice surprise when you arrive at your new home! You'd think professional movers would be smarter than that. You'd think that, but you'd be wrong. Good Luck!! :)
